This is a partnership project with the Alzheimer’s Society. In May 2013, the Foundation partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society to launch Dementia Awareness Week with an exhibition of artwork created by people suffering with dementia. With the theme “Worrying Changes Nothing, Talking Changes Everything,” it seeks to reach out to the general public to begin to destigmatise dementia, sometimes seen as the elephant in the room.
In September 2013 the Foundation provided training courses to increase Dementia Awareness amongst frontline staff in retail and service businesses in Tunbridge Wells. 100% of trainees also reported that their knowledge has developed as a result of attending the course. The course was attended by Sheltered Staff and Customer Service workers.
Next year the project will be focussed on diagnosis rates, the stigma associated with the condition and working with KCC on implementing dementia friendly communities.
