Partner Provider: Working Futures Partnership & Access All Areas
THIS IS THE STORY OF: A lone parent in Tunbridge Wells
Why did he/she join your project?
The learner joined the “Work in Progress Course” in Tunbridge Wells. She was referred by the job centre as she had recently gone from ESA to JSA and had a son aged 6 at school and was now expected to get work.
What were their learning skills needs? What outcomes did they desire?
She lacked confidence and didn’t have a CV or any real idea of what she wanted to do. She needed a job that had to be term time only because of her son at school and she didn’t have any family nearby who could help with child care
What were the barriers to learning / what obstacles have they had to overcome?
Poor confidence and low self- esteem, lack of IT skills and CV
What have their achievements been (employment / qualifications / soft outcomes)?
A major increase in confidence and self- esteem. She was helped to complete a CV and started to volunteer at the local community café. She progressed on to AAA and attended the weekly job club .Here she gained IT skills and began to apply for jobs on line. The learning providers are from the local secondary school St Gregory’s and they advised her of a job as lunch time supervisor. She was helped to apply and coached for the interview. She is now employed at the school and this works perfectly as it is a term time only job.
How has the PROJECT affected their life?
She is now so happy as she loves the job she does and it fits in with her son. She is so confident and the feedback from the school has been so positive
What would they like to do when the programme finishes or progressions achieved?
Achieved now in work.
